What’s your desert story?

Just about everyone who lives in or visits the Coachella Valley has a story about falling in love with the Palm Springs area.

Gary Williams understands. His story dates to the early ’70s when he was stationed at March Air Force Base and visited the desert whenever he had the chance. He fell in love with the laid-back attitude, the warmth of the people and, of course, the weather.

Life Changing Moments

Gary’s penchant for the desert never waned as he pursued a successful career as a business owner in the Los Angeles area. But a couple of poignant life moments would change his desert story forever. After his father unexpectedly passed away, Gary became caretaker for his mother. Together, they decided it was best she move from L.A., so they purchased a home for her in The Springs in Rancho Mirage. “She’s loved every day since,” says Gary, smiling his trademark smile.

With his mother here, Gary found himself visiting quite often and regretting every time he had to leave. Then, his story took another turn when his wife, Aida, faced a series of serious surgeries. She recovered nicely, but the impact wasn’t lost on the couple. It made them step back and evaluate their quality of life and how they wanted to live.

Passionate About Palm Springs Area Living

Gary and Aida’s story became one of living full-time in the desert. They’ve never looked back. Gary thinks it’s great to live in a place where every day is like being on vacation. He’s passionate about golf, even when he jokes about “playing his slice.” He cherishes the friendships he’s made and never tires of the sunset against the San Jacintos.
